Pediatrician and pediatric oncologist and hematologist, with over 30 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience in Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM), in the areas of anthroposophic medicine, phytotherapy, integrative oncology, and integrative pediatrics. He has been a pioneer in comparative studies of traditional medical systems since the 1980s. For 15 years, he has coordinated the Institute of Integrative Medicine with a multidisciplinary team treating children and adults with cancer and immune disorders. He is the founding chair and current vice president of the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health (CABSIN), leader of a research group, and general coordinator of the TCIM evidence maps in partnership with BIREME/PAHO, which provide evidence to the Ministry of Health for the implementation of public policies for Brazil and Latin America.
A pioneer in Latin America in the field of integrative pediatrics and integrative pediatric oncology since 2015, he has worked with the Integrative Pediatrics Unit program at the Pediatric Oncology Hospital of the University of São Paulo School of Medicine, in partnership with Charité University in Germany.
He is a collaborating professor in the Department of Primary Care Medicine at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro School of Medicine. He is a professor in the Postgraduate Program in Integrative Oncology at Corpas University in Colombia and in the Multidisciplinary Residency in Integrative Health at the São Paulo Municipal Health Department. He is also Vice-President of the Integrative Pediatrics Committee of the São Paulo Pediatric Society (SPSP). He is also an Ambassador for Brazil for the Society of Integrative Oncology (SIO). Member of the International Research Council on Anthroposophical Medicine, Medical Section, Goetheanum, Switzerland, since 2005, Consultant for the TCIM Americas Network related to the PAHO/WHO Virtual Health Library (16 countries), collaborating researcher at institutions such as the All India Institute of Ayurveda (India), Cohrane Complementary Medicine (USA), Brazil-China Cooperation Academy, Charité University (Germany), Technion University (Israel), Southern Cross University/UTS (Australia), Hanyang University (South Korea), Peruvian Medical College (Peru) and Georgetown University Medical School (USA).
World Health Organization (WHO) expert as a member of the Advisory Panel for TCIM since 2019, contributing to Benchmarks for training in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Anthroposophic Medicine and Yoga, Development of models to assess the integration of TCIM into health systems, member of the group for organizing the First Global Summit on Traditional Medicine 2023, parallel to the G20 in India, Coordination of the working group in Brazil for the Traditional Medicine Chapter of the WHO ICD-11 (Ayurveda), Member of the Working Group for the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy Project 2025-2034, member of the Working Group for Research Prioritization in the Americas region for the WHO Global TM Center, member of the WHO Thematic Group on Artificial Intelligence. His academic background included training in Goethean Phenomenology in Botany and Morphology from the Pishwanton Center of Goethean Science (UK), a Master's degree in Comparative Anatomy and Developmental Biology from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of São Paulo, former Assistant Professor of Embryology and Histology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of São Paulo, a PhD in Reproductive Toxicology with preclinical studies using antineoplastic phytotherapeutics from the School of Medicine at the Federal University of São Paulo, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroscience, focusing on Pain and Anthroposophy, at the Department of Neurology at the School of Medicine at the Federal University of São Paulo.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of several journals, including Complementary Therapies in Medicine, Global Advances in Health and Medicine, the European Journal of Integrative Medicine, and Frontiers in Public Health.
