About the symposium

Rates of pediatric noncommunicable diseases continue to rise, with more children living with asthma, obesity, diabetes, eczema, epilepsy, and other chronic conditions that often lead to higher emergency visits, hospitalizations, medication burden, and fragmented care. Families and clinicians are turning to traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) to manage symptoms and improve daily life, yet few opportunities exist for clinicians to learn evidence-based TCIM practices for this population.

This two-day symposium addresses that gap. Leading international experts across hematology and oncology, neurology, dermatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, immunology, rheumatology, pain management, and research methodology each present a focused lecture followed by a case-based panel discussion, showing how TCIM applies in real clinical situations. A hands-on Integrative Expo at the close of day one lets participants experience several of the modalities firsthand.

Participants leave with practical skills to integrate TCIM safely and effectively into an existing plan of care, a deeper understanding of the current evidence base, and models they can scale within their own settings.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the current evidence supporting TCIM approaches for symptom management and improved quality of life among children and adolescents affected by noncommunicable diseases.
  2. Apply whole-person clinical diagnostics and approaches to develop integrative care plans that combine TCIM modalities with conventional pediatric care.
  3. Evaluate real-world pediatric cases to identify clinical indications, safety considerations, and appropriate timing for incorporating TCIM modalities.
  4. Identify practical strategies for implementing integrative services within pediatric care settings, including referral pathways, workflow integration, staffing, and reimbursement considerations.

Program Topics

  1. Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Supportive Care
  2. Pediatric Neurology and Dermatology
  3. Pediatric Gastroenterology and Endocrinology
  4. Pediatric Immunology and Rheumatology
  5. Approaches to Pain in Pediatrics
  6. Research in Integrative Medicine and Pediatrics
  7. Each clinical topic is followed by a case presentation panel
  8. Integrative Expo: Hands-On Session on TCIM and its role in pediatric chronic disease
